What year did you join the JLLB? How many years is that? 2009.  This is my 11th year.  I took one year of absence and a year on tenure active.  If you ever feel like you need to take a break, come talk to me.  I’ve done them all and keep coming back.

What do you do outside the League as a job? I’m in education.  I have been a High School math teacher, assistant principal and principal.  Currently, I am a coordinator at LA County Office of Education in the Charter School Office.
Which city did you grow up in and how’d you end up in Long Beach? I grew up in St. Joseph, Michigan on a farm near Lake Michigan.  I came out to California in 2000 for a teaching job and the weather and I live in the South Bay.
Why did you join the JLLB? My librarian, Lisa Kooi, kept telling me she thought I would enjoy it and I did.
What do you enjoy about membership in the JLLB? You come for the volunteerism and you stay because of the people.
What are your hobbies / what do you like to do for fun? I like to read, lift weights, go to concerts, watch college sports and find weird/interesting things to do in LA (I;ve been on a graffiti tour of LA, many scavenger hunts, to a Mad Hatter (Gin and) Tea Party, and have done some walking tours of LA and Long Beach).  During the quarantine, I have found two new hobbies; crafting cocktails and crocheting.  I’m getting really good at one of them.

Unique fun fact about you? I can solve a rubik’s cube in about 3 minutes. I’m not fast, just consistent.
