COMMUNITY IMPACT
Since 1931, the Junior League of Long Beach (JLLB) has been the driving force behind the kinds of initiatives and institutions that make our community a healthier, more vital place to live. Throughout its history, JLLB has developed, supported and launched more than 60 projects into the community — making a measurable, positive impact on the welfare of greater Long Beach children and their families. WE’RE FOCUSED ON WHAT MATTERS MOST RIGHT NOW IN LONG BEACH
At the Junior League of Long Beach, we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us on our toes, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.
The Junior League of Long Beach works with community partners to facilitate Leadership and Youth Development programs to encourage positive experiences, relationships, and environments for youth and young adults to thrive.
Current Projects:
- Young Leaders Summit – The Young Leaders Summit is JLLB’s newest signature leadership program for high school girls across Long Beach. In partnership with community partners, the program is designed to address real community needs and features a curriculum shaped by local partner insights, engaging speakers, and hands-on activities. Designed to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders, the program helps participants discover their strengths, build practical skills, and see themselves as leaders today.
Prom Party: For the last 4 years, JLLB has hosted as one of its signature youth-centered programs – a confidence-building experience that ensures every student can participate in prom feeling celebrated and supported. Through partnerships with local schools and community organizations, students receive access to formalwear, styling, and skin-care services in a boutique-style environment that promotes dignity, belonging, and self-expression. More than a dress event, Prom Party creates a meaningful moment where young people feel valued and uplifted as they step into an important milestone with confidence.
- Advocacy: We are committed to serving the needs of children in the greater Long Beach community and throughout the state of California through our advocacy efforts. Like many non-profit organizations, JLLB conducts two primary types of Advocacy:
- Community advocacy: involves changing the ideas and attitudes of the public through education programs that may include direct mail, publications, group presentations, press releases, and a website.
- Legislative: Non-profit advocacy to influence legislation may involve legislative monitoring, committee testifying, lobbying, writing position statements or papers, organizing networks and coalitions, and a variety of other activities.
