We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Long Beach

Since 1931, the Junior League of Long Beach (JLLB) has been the driving force behind the kinds of initiatives and institutions that make our community a healthier, more vital place to live. Throughout its history, JLLB has developed, supported and launched more than 60 projects into the community — making a measurable, positive impact on the welfare of greater Long Beach children and their families.

At the Junior League of Long Beach, we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us on our toes, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.

The Junior League of Long Beach will work with community partners to increase confidence and self-awareness among youth through character development and life skills programs designed to encourage respect for self and others.

  • Advocacy: We are committed to serving the needs of children in the greater Long Beach community and throughout the state of California through our advocacy efforts. Like many non-profit organizations, JLLB conducts two primary types of Advocacy:
    • Community advocacy: involves changing the ideas and attitudes of the public through education programs that may include direct mail, publications, group presentations, press releases, and a website.
    • Legislative: Non-profit advocacy to influence legislation may involve legislative monitoring, committee testifying, lobbying, writing position statements or papers, organizing networks and coalitions, and a variety of other activities.

  • Especially Me!: An interactive class designed to teach 5th grade girls the skills they need to be happy and confident, to make good decisions, to be assertive, to express themselves, and to have a strong sense of self. The goal of this program is to instill the idea in each girl that she is unique and special and she can take control of her own life!

  • Kids in the Kitchen: Focuses on educating children in the community about the importance of healthy eating, cooking, gardening, fitness, meditation and other health-centered lifestyle choices. We believe in empowering children (and families) with the knowledge of how to feed and exercise their bodies in the fight against the epidemic of childhood obesity.

Our goal is to help Long Beach and surrounding area women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do, then put those talents to work in the communities that need it. Our current focus gives women opportunities to grow, while positively impacting the communities where they live and work.

We’re Creating Fulfilling Leadership Opportunities Throughout Long Beach

The Junior League of Long Beach offers so much more than local volunteering opportunities! Our League of leaders creates real change by advancing social activism-focused projects that directly benefit the communities of Long Beach. By giving women the tools to lead, educating them about their communities’ needs, and helping them put their unique brand of creativity and skill to work, Junior League of Long Beach is making a big impact on Long Beach, CA.

We’re Transforming Long Beach Communities by Challenging the Status Quo

No matter what we’re currently focusing on, the Junior League of Long Beach’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action and leadership. We have identified Self Esteem as the most pressing issue in our community right now, and we are helping local women take action to resolve it. We make an impact on building confidence and self-awareness among youth through our Advocacy, Kids in the Kitchen, and Especially Me! Programs.
