Established in 1931 by a small group of women, the Junior League of Long Beach (JLLB) is a volunteer organization whose members share a common philosophy of community service and willingness to dedicate their resources and efforts to solving some of the needs of our society. This spirit of social concern and community service prevails throughout our history: today, the issues and our society may have changed significantly since our inaugural year, but the commitment and dedication of the women who volunteer in the JLLB is the same. Historically renowned for our week-long annual Rummage Sale at the downtown Long Beach Convention Center, the JLLB offers a rich history of positive impact.

The community projects established by the JLLB have been diverse and far-reaching. Through needs assessment, support of fund development, and volunteer hours, the JLLB has been instrumental in launching more than 60 projects and programs into the greater Long Beach community. Some of our most notable projects include: Mary McLeod Bethune Transitional Center, Children’s Dental Health Clinic, Rancho Los Cerritos Docent Program, and Rebuilding Together Long Beach, which is part of a national program.

In addition to improving the community, the mission of the JLLB is promoting voluntarism and developing the potential of women. Our volunteer organization provides women of all backgrounds the opportunity to acquire new skills, better understand our community’s needs, and become leaders in their workplaces and in other nonprofit organizations. The JLLB and its highly-trained members are the cornerstones to our thriving nonprofit and professional communities.
