Full Name: Cameron C. Hernandez

Current Placement(s) in the JLLB?
Fund Development Chair-Elect/ Treasurer-Elect

What year did you join the JLLB? How many years is that?
I joined Fall 2018, One and a half years ago

Where did you go to school and what degrees do you hold? I received my bachelors degree from UC San Diego (Eleanor Roosevelt College) majoring in Political Science, and received my JD from Whittier Law School (emphasis in Tax and Estate Planning)

What do you do outside the League as a job? Tell us all your jobs both professional and other places you volunteer. I work for myself.  I help clients manage their trusts or manage it for them as a private trustee/trust accounting/tax preparer/property management.  I help my older clients open their mail, write checks, and pay bills. Some are elderly “orphans” and others have family members who are not able to help with the daily money management. Many of them are potential victims of fraud and do not know the difference between a real bill and a fake bill.  Also, many women have never taken care of their finances, their husbands have handled everything, and when their husbands pass away they are completely lost. With three little kids, I didn’t want to work at a law firm 60+ hours.  I had worked drafting estate planning documents and trust administration at law firms prior to having kids.
I currently volunteer at my kids’ school St. Hedwig one day every two weeks and teach Meet the Masters in the classroom.  When they were at Lowell Elementary I was a PTA Executive Board member for 4 years as the Head Room Rep (emailing communications to parents weekly), Financial Secretary (making cash deposits) and  Auditor. I was also on the boards of several professional organizations National Asso of Tax Professionals, and California Society of Tax Consultants.  I also was the Advisory Team Chairman for Delta Gamma Long Beach Chapter before I had children for several years.

What city did you grow up and how’d you end up in Long Beach? I grew up in Los Angeles and attended Immaculate Heart High School.  After law school, I was working in Newport Beach and my husband was working in Orange, Ca. He was going to change jobs either to Downtown Los Angeles or El Segundo, and we needed to find something that would be halfway for the both of us.  Having grown up in Los Angeles, I only knew very little of LB , and I really didn’t want to move here.  He had me attend my Delta Gamma Alumnae meeting, and I met some wonderful ladies including Sharon Eastman (who also recommended I join JLLB) who shared with me where to live in LB.  It has been the best decision!!

Why did you join the JLLB? I joined because Sharon Eastman (and other wonderful ladies) who told me what a great organization this is.  Not only to help others in the community, but also leadership training, and social events!! Having three little kids (11, 8 and 5 yrs old) I relish the opportunity for socializing with the wonderful women of JLLB.

What keeps you staying in the JLLB?
1) The training, I am a constant lover of knowledge and the training fills my spirit.
2) Socials, I love attending events and meeting new women who I would not have met since I’m knee-deep in a mommy world where making friends is really hard. I am an extrovert and meeting people really energizes me.

What are your hobbies / what do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy traveling, photography, scrapbooking, cooking, and entertaining friends. I want to pursue spinning and barre classes.
What is a unique fun fact about you?  I speak Spanish thanks to my grandparents, took French in high school and Italian in college.  I love to travel and talk with people and thought the more languages I know the better. My kids and husband only speak English.

What’s your New Year resolution? To lose weight, which is why I want to take spinning and barre classes, I realize that I am a people person and working out at home alone is not for me.
