Kids in the Kitchen

For nearly two decades, the Junior League of Long Beach’s various Kids in the Kitchen activities have been a part of our work with community partners to increase confidence and self-awareness among youth through character development and life skills programs designed to encourage respect for self and others.

The Junior League of Long Beach’s Kids in the Kitchen program focuses on educating children in the community about the importance of healthy eating, cooking, gardening, fitness, meditation and other health-centered lifestyle choices. Currently, we are sponsoring the creation of a new herb garden at Rancho Los Cerritos and coordinating after-school programs for children and caregivers, and we bring activities and information booths to community events.

We believe in empowering children (and families) with the knowledge of how to feed and exercise their bodies in the fight against the epidemic of childhood obesity. This activism falls under the auspices of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc.’s long-time commitment to improving the health and wellness of children.

The Junior League of Long Beach’s Kids in the Kitchen program has impacted the lives of thousands of youngsters over the years who have attended our healthy eating and exercise fairs at various city parks; intimate cooking workshops at the Boys & Girls Club; give-back cooking opportunities at the Ronald McDonald House; dance classes at the YMCA and various middle schools; gardening and nutrition courses at area libraries and community gardens; and much, much more.

Interested in helping us draw awareness to this important issue? We are always looking for community partners to help us continue to grow this initiative and reach more families in need. We are currently seeking local organizations, businesses and individuals who are interested in inviting the Junior League to host or co-host a workshop or interactive booth related to health and fitness.
